Betfair to Support Racing Staff Week for Third Year — Featuring a New Stable Staff Charity Race at Newton Abbot

Racing Welfare is delighted to announce that Betfair will support Racing Staff Week for the third year. Racing Welfare’s most extensive PR and fundraising campaign of the year takes place from Saturday 30th June to Saturday 7th July this year and will once more celebrate and raise awareness about the dedicated people who work behind the scenes in the British racing industry.

The week will feature two charity races exclusively for stable staff; the fourth running of the Betfair Clock Tower Cup at Doncaster, and a new race, The Betfair Racing Staff Week Cup at Newton Abbot. Both races will take place on Friday 6th July.  The Clock Tower Cup will continue to be run over seven furlongs and the Racing Staff Week Cup will be over 1 mile 4 furlongs, enabling staff from flat and jump yards to be nominated to ride by their trainers in recognition of their hard work and dedication.  The Doncaster raceday will once again include the popular fundraising lunch.

Pat Masterson, Managing Director of Newton Abbot Racecourse comments:
Newton Abbot Racecourse is delighted to be able to support Racing Staff Week. It is quite right that the spotlight for this week is on all those dedicated people who work behind the scenes of our wonderful sport. We look forward to the 6th July.

The whole racing industry is once more getting behind the campaign and developing initiatives to recognise and reward racing staff and generate awareness with racegoers and supporters about the skill and dedication required to work across all areas of the racing industry. Further announcements about the various activities taking place during the week will be posted on www.racingstaffweek.com and Racing Welfare’s social media pages.

Dawn Goodfellow, Chief Executive of Racing Welfare comments:
This is such an important week for Racing Welfare and we are extremely grateful to Betfair for their continued support. Over the past two years the awareness generated from all the Racing Staff Week initiatives and PR has been a game-changer for Racing Welfare; we are reaching so many more people in the industry who need us and we are being supported by more people, which is vital as we rely on fundraising to maintain and broaden the services we can provide for everyone who works in racing.

James Midmer, Betfair’s Head of Communications adds:
Betfair is very proud to continue supporting Racing Staff Week, building on our long-term support for Racing Welfare. This is such an important week in terms of highlighting the role of racing staff in the production of British Horseracing, and the vital support that Racing Welfare provides to everyone who works in the industry. We are very much looking forward to being involved again.
